Plaquex Therapy in Edmonton

Phospholipids for Cardiovascular & Lyme Disease.

Plaquex Basics

Phospholipids are what compose Plaquex.

They are major building blocks of cell membranes.

As we age, the phospholipids in the cell membranes becomes damaged (free radicals, heavy metals, toxicants etc).

Plaquex therapy can restores cell membrane integrity especially in blood vessels and can improve blood flow. Therefore it can be helpful in: Reducing arterial plaque, coronary artery disease & angina & peripheral artery disease.

Improvements in blood flow can improve walking distance (intermittent claudication) and male erectile function and sexual potency and reduce chest pain and improve cognitive function.

Our Naturopathic Doctors can complement Plaquex therapy with supplementation of Magnesium Orotate, which improves cardiac contractile function following damage to the heart or Arginine which can improve blood flow (but is contraindicated in heart attack patients), or CoQ10 that has been used successfully to treat heart failure and angina and can improve endothelial function and reduce blood pressure.

Your Naturopath at TruMed will formulate a precise plan depending on your individual needs.

Naturopathic Cardiovascular Disease Assessment

Our Naturopathic Doctors run Advanced Cardiovascular Health blood profiles in our Edmonton patients. This can be helpful in understanding other ways we can improve your heart health other than with Plaquex.

These allow us to understand precisely what is impacting your heart health.

We are able to measure not only your cholesterol, but looking into HDL & LDL Particle Number and Size, as well as numerous independent inflammatory risk factors for cardiovascular disease including - hs-CRP, homocysteine, fibrinogen, Lp-PLA2 and Lipoprotein A.

Fibrinogen is produced by the liver and plays a role in blood clotting. Numerous studies have shown that an elevated blood fibrinogen is a strong risk factor for cardiovascular disease. High dose Omega 3 can be helpful for reducing Fibrinogen.

Homocysteine - Homocysteine is a byproduct of methionine metabolism, and a deficiency of folate, vitamin B6, or vitamin B12 may cause one to develop hyperhomocysteinemia. Naturally, if our Naturopathic Doctors seen an elevated homocysteine we supplements with activated / methylated B Vitamins.

Lipoprotein-associated phospholipase A2 (Lp-PLA2) is an enzyme that appears to play a role in the inflammation of blood vessels.

Lipoprotein A - There is evidence that Lp(a) is atherogenic and our Naturopaths usually suggest Fish Oil, Niacin and possibly assessment of Thyroid function if we see it elevated.

By addressing other Cardiovascular risk factors our Naturopaths can better improve your heart health and blood vessel health.
