Banana Bag IV

Banana Bag IVs in Edmonton

TruMed offers Edmonton banana bag IVs for dehydration

Our Naturopath clinic uses custom rehydration formulas in our IV Therapy Lounge.

We use vitamins, and electrolytes in a custom Banana bag IV, to rehydrate you quickly.

In Hospitals, patients with alcohol use disorders or alcohol withdrawal, are often prescribed “banana bags” or “rally packs” at admission to the ICU.

These prescriptions typically consist of 1L of IV fluid infused and commonly a combination of thiamine (b1), folic acid, magnesium, and a multivitamin formulation in either normal saline (NS) or dextrose in water (D5W)

The multivitamin, along with folic acid, gives the banana bag its characteristic yellow hue.

Hence Banana Bag! Our Naturopaths usually add additional Riboflavin (B2) which is orange, and Methylcobalamin (B12) which is pink, so our Banana Bags are usually more orangey red that banana yellow.

One IV bag is used.

L

Long length for administration: 90-120 minutes. Large volume IV.

Key Ingredients

Electrolytes

Sodium, Potassium, Calcium are included.

B1

High dose Thiamine is given as it is depleted with alcohol use.

MTHF

Activated Folic acid is given - also commonly depleted with alcohol use

Magnesium

Magnesium is required in multiple steps of aerobic respiration. Key enzymes in the glycolysis pathway require magnesium. Alcohol use increases magnesium elimination.

Athletes, Dehydrated patients and even Edmonton's partyers can get this hydrating Banana Bag IV.

Our Naturopaths don't simply give saline!

We've taken your typical Banana bag IV, jazzed it up with higher doses of Vitamins and Vitamin C and offer it to the public.

Our Naturopath clinic uses custom formulated nutrient based rehydration formulas to Edmonton.

For dealing with alcohol withdrawal your TruMed Naturopath may suggest IV NAD as it can be beneficial for alcohol and opioid withdrawal. Additional Thiamine (B1), Niacinamide (B3), Vitamin C are key nutrients other than NAD that can be helpful in reducing intoxication and decreasing delerium tremens.

Interestingly enough, there is data that suggests that consumption of a form of Vitamin B5 called Pantethine can reduce hangovers substantially. So, if you are not able to make it to the clinic for a Banana bag IV, your TruMed Naturopath may suggest oral Pantethine to reduce likelihood of hangover.

We waive consult fees for first time Banana Bag hydration patients.
